LIU Chang is a new media artist & researcher who works extensively in the field of Extended Reality(VR/AR), installation art, short film, and 3d & 2d animation with a preference for abstract and surrealism aesthetic. She is keen to creatively combined new media technologies to achieve technical innovation, artistic expression, and social transformation.Liu Chang’s indivisual and jointed works have been included and exhibited at multiple galleries and international festivals such as Filmasia, ifva, ISCA2019, Stuttgart film winter, Phantom Horizons project, Osage gallery, and Singing wave gallery.
Bystander is a Cinematic VR installation that allows the audiences to step into the shoes of a traumatized female being abused in childhood, who then suffered from PTSD, Depersonalization Disorder, Social anxiety, and Depression. Go through strips of fabric projected with her fragmented memories; The audiences can immerse in her bizarre subconsciousness world through a creative VR interactive system.
PTSD is a lifetime agony accompanied with physical impairments and multiple mental disorders. But how can this agony be experienced by people without PTSD? The aim of this work is to explore the potential of the creative combination of new media technologies in enhancing audiences’ empathy during a film.
